DSIG ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICER
DSIG welcomes Nathaniel Quintana, PMP as a new officer to The Board of Directors team during 2nd quarter 2005.

Nathaniel has assumed the VP of eTechnology position and shall be responsible for promoting the Diversity SIG through the development and management of technology. Notably, Nathaniel will manage the DSIG website and technical service offerings such as webinars, chat rooms, and discussion groups.

Nathaniel has PMI Leadership expertise with much component experience. Nathaniel is a currently a member of the PMI Leadership Institute class of 2005, where he is learning to hone his skills and further enhance his personal growth of mental models and system dynamic thinking that flourishes community interaction. In addition, Nathaniel has served as VP of Public Relations of the PMI Southern Nevada Chapter that has continually strived to enhance and embody PMI principles and profession.

Currently, Nathaniel has responsibility to manage the Sales and Marketing Data Integration project, a project that automates partner programs for discounts and rebates for Quantum Corporation. Nathaniel is open to sharing knowledge and best practice ideas!

PMI Global Congress EMEA Call for Presentations is Open! PMI Components Can Help Shape Educational Content at PMI Global Congresses. How? By energizing their members to submit ideas for areas of interest - broad topics around which congress presentations have been developed. PMI is committed to delivering quality professional development experiences that correspond to stakeholders needs. Our members help set the direction for the educational programming at all PMI Global Congresses through suggestions that have appeal and relevance across geographical boundaries and industries. Think new methodologies, hot topics, best practices or regional concerns.

Currently, submissions for call for presentations for PMI Global Congress 2005-EMEA (23-25 May in Edinburgh, Scotland) are being accepted through January 28, 2005. Suggestions should be of interest primarily to those in the project management profession in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

DSIG Board Gains Two New Officers
At the June 2004 DSIG Board of Directors meeting, Sheilina Somani, PMP, and Justyna Bahl were formally appointed to succeed vacant PMI Diversity SIG officer positions.

Sheilina will assume the VP Education position and shall be responsible for promoting a holistic, applied-oriented understanding of Diversity and its relevance within the project management profession. Through the development of Diversity-related educational materials, identification of knowledge-enhancing resources, and a DSIG-developed and sponsored professional development activity, value-added emphasis will be placed on enhancing and expanding the Diversity-related skills and knowledge of project managers in accordance with the objectives of DSIG.

Sheilina has expertise in facilitation, instruction, consultancy, support, and development across all staffing levels for private and public business sectors. She possess more than 18 years of PM experience. She has presented over 70 classes in more than thirty countries around the world.

In addition to program and project management consultancy activities, Sheilina is actively involved in the development and delivery of education in Neuro-Linguistic programming (NLP). Sheilina holds a Masters Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University.

Justyna Bahl, was formally appointed to succeed the vacant Vice President of Marketing officer position. The VP Marketing shall be responsible for the publicity of the Diversity SIG and PMI to internal and external publications and through partnering with businesses. Additionally, the position includes cooperative marketing of DSIG project management activities with other chapters, sigs, and business partners.

Justyna has marketing experience leading marketing campaigns and conceiving promotional events, leading market research and analysis in targeted customer communication efforts, and developing strategic blueprint for diversity recruitment. In addition to leading projects, Justyna has experience in creating project metrics and status reporting for executive management.

Presently, Justyna is Marketing and Sales Manager for International Institute for Learning, Inc. (IIL). Justyna is engaged in business expansion programs which allow significant exposure to diverse Eastern Europe markets and multi-cultural settings. Justyna holds an MBA from University of Applied Sciences in Hof, Germany

PM Scholarship for Minority Students
Over the past several years PMI has been working to broaden its cultural and ethnic diversity by reaching out to women and minority groups, specifically through the Women in Project Management SIG and the Diversity SIG. During the 2002 PMI Seminar/Symposium in San Antonio, Lowell Dye, President of TriCon Consulting, Inc. in Beavercreek talked with several corporate managers, educators, SIG and Education Foundation leaders to discover that while PMI's international and cultural diversity is on the rise, there seems to be very few minority women from the United States actively engaged in project management. Out of that PMI Seminar/Symposium Lowell Dye, President of TriCon Consulting, Inc. decided to sponsor a scholarship to help encourage minority women in project management.

Scholarship Details
TriCon Consulting, Inc. sponsors an annual $2000 scholarship, to be awarded specifically to a minority woman who is a US citizen, attending an Ohio school, and involved in project management related studies. Studies may be at the Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate levels at a public or private school. The scholarship is presented in the April - May timeframe through PMI's Education Foundation as part of their scholarship program.

Last Year's Recipient
Shirelle Cox, PMP, a member of the Dayton-Miami Valley Chapter is the 2003 recipient of the PMI Education Foundation Scholarship for Minority Students. She is an Information Systems Analyst with the City of Dayton and is currently enrolled in MBA program at the University of Phoenix, Troy, OH campus.

PMI Diversity SIG Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary
PMI Diversity SIG was rewarded with a 5 year anniversary plaque from the Project Management Institute for continuously supporting and demonstrating the objectives of the PMI Institute. The plaque was a renewal of the original charter that was first granted in 1998. The plaque displayed all PMI Diversity SIG Chairs who have presided during the 5 year period. The PMI Chairs/Presidents that served during the period are:

  • Todd Brown (1998 2000)
  • Melba Hardy (2000)
  • Don Brown (2001 2002)
  • Stewart White (2003)
